Born near Stanton, Delaware, son of Ellis Sanders and Hannah Mendenhall. Conversion to Mormonism, 1843; experiences in Nauvoo, Illinois; persecutions against Mormons; exodus west; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1848; settlement in Salt Lake Valley; move to St. George, Utah, work there as water master.
